9/19/26 Starting to Garden (Part 1): Making Your Beds and Preparing for Plants

📅 Saturday September 19th, 2026
⏰ 10:00am–11:30am
📍 5414 19th Ave S, Gulfport, Fl 33707

This is part one of three in our beginner-friendly "Starting to Garden" series. Please sign up for each part you plan on attending. Join Rachel Perrino, co-founder of the Little Tree Homestead, to learn how to get started from the beginning. Whether you have no beds in place and no idea where to start or if you have been gardening for a while, whether you want to just dip your toe in or rip out your whole yard, Rachel will get you comfortable growing your own food in these unique Central Florida growing conditions.

Part one will be an interactive discussion on choosing the best spot for your garden, choosing bed designs (in ground vs raised beds vs table beds), how to source and improve soil and growing materials, and finally considerations for watering (watering by hand, with drip irrigation, maxi-jets, timers, etc.). Bring you questions and concerns and Rachel will help you get ready to start your gardening journey on the right foot.

This will be an outside, hand's on class so bring a hat for shade and a water bottle.

This class is offered at a sliding scale price. Your contribution supports your participation as well as our mission to provide education and support for our community to live more sustainably. Please choose the amount that aligns with your finances knowing that your support is incredibly valuable. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.
